Ingredients

Cake Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries hulled and halved
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Pour the melted butter into the cake pan and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the butter. Arrange the strawberry halves cut side down on top of the brown sugar.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter over the strawberries in the cake pan, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.
